About

The Department of Physics was founded during the same year of the establishment of the Faculty of Science in 1984. The first class graduated in Fall 1987. Graduate studies program commenced in the Faculty in Spring 1984. The first defense of a master's thesis took place in 1988.

Mission

The Department of Physics in Misurata seeks to be at the forefront of corresponding scientific departments locally and globally in teaching, scientific research, and community service.

Goals

- To provide high-level education and instruction for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels to create highly qualified students who are prepared to achieve their future ambitions and contribute to the progress of society.
- To prepare specialized personnel in various branches of physics, qualify them, and provide them with high level of knowledge and skills so that they are able to play a role in community development and keep pace with progress and civilization.
- To suggest and conduct basic applied scientific research.
- To contribute to advisory and training services, short courses, extracurricular activities, and community education.
- Teaching courses of physics in other colleges and departments.
- To cooperate and strengthen relationships and exchange of expertise with scientific institutions locally and internationally.
- To enhance the values of individual competition.

Department of Chemistry


About

The Department of Chemistry was founded in the Faculty of Science, Misurata in 1984 to be a scientific and cultural support to other scientific departments in the Faculty. The tasks of the department are as follows:
- The department seeks to connect chemistry students with other applied sciences such as environmental chemistry, industrial chemistry, geochemistry, and nuclear chemistry.
- Preparing cadres with a Bachelor's degree in various specialties of chemistry.
- Conducting scientific research related to the problems of society in order to find the necessary solutions and keeping base with scientific progress.
- The department works as a consultant in the field of chemistry for scientific and educational institutions in Misurata city and other cities in Libya.
- Teaching chemistry at the university level and contributing to the development of chemistry curricula at the university and other educational institutions in line with scientific progress in the field.
- Graduating holders of master's degree in chemistry who are qualified as faculty members and researchers.
It is worth noting that the department has been established in line with the development of the faculty, as it started as a section and is now one of the largest scientific departments in the Faculty. It always seeks to be at the forefront.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Chemistry is raising the levels of instruction in the department by employing the most qualified and highly educated personnel in the field of chemistry. This results consequently in graduating highly-prepared human resources full of ambition and ready to be involved in building and leading the society towards prosperity. The department is also interested in developing research in different branches of chemistry for the purpose of opening a new horizon for innovation and creativity.

- Educating and preparing students to participate in community development.
- Connecting Misurata University to the industrial sector in Libya.
- Facilitating and providing research requirements for local researchers.

Vision

The Department of Chemistry seeks to upgrade and develop its academic programs and curricula, and to renovate teaching and evaluation methods so that graduates can compete in the labor market. The department also has future plans for research in order to advance society.

About

The department was founded in 1984 simultaneously with the establishment of the Faculty of Science. Biology Department commenced its activities since the beginning of the Faculty. The department consists of Zoology and Botany sections which were created in the academic year (1996/1997) to modernize and develop curricula in the department. Microbiology section was later established in the academic year (2005/2006).

Department of Statistics


About

The Statistics Department was founded in 1992 in the Faculty of Science.
In 2001, the department had been transferred to the Faculty of Economics by a decision from the Administration of High Education and has graduated three batches of students.
The department was then transferred to the Faculty of Science by a decision from the Administration of Misurata University in 2005. The first semester in Fall 2006-2007 included 20 students. In Fall 2019, the number of registered students has reached 83.

Mission

- Contributing to the success of the educational process in different levels of education including basic, secondary, and university levels.
- Enriching the practical research process in the fields of statistics by publishing research projects .
- Graduating specialized personnel capable of contributing to areas of development in Libya.

Goals

- Preparing specialists in the field of Statistics by offering integrated study programs for obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Statistics.
- Assisting other departments and faculties in teaching Statistics.
- Conducting various scientific research studies with productive institutions in Libya.
- Promoting statistical education in various fields in line with modern sciences.
